Naoya Wada

Clara Schumann (1819-1896) was a German composer and renowned pianist who mostly wrote works for the piano. At the time, women were not encouraged to become composers; therefore, she could not get the proper recognition that hers works deserved. As a result, she stopped composing at the age of 37 and dedicated her career to performing and teaching piano.
After many years had passed, in 1879, Clara resumed composing with the "March in E flat major" a 4 handed piano piece which became her last written work. It was performed for the golden wedding ceremony of the painters Julius Hübner and his wife Pauline, who had been a dear friend to her husband Robert Schumann.

ドイツの作曲家クララ･シューマン(1819 - 1896)は、自身がピアニストだったこともあり、発表された大半の作品がピアノのためのものです。 女性が作曲家になることが世間に認められない時代で、正当な評価をしてもらえなかったこともあり、37歳の頃に作曲を中止、その後はピアニスト･ピアノ教師として生きる道を選びました。
1879年、約四半世紀ぶりに筆を持ったこの「行進曲 変ホ長調」で、夫のロベルト･シューマンとともに交友関係があった、画家のユーリウス・ヒュプナーとパウリーネ夫妻の金婚式のために作曲されました。 マーチを書くこと、また夫ロベルトの「家族の肖像」を引用することを提案したのは、長女マーリエであり、作曲に行き詰っていたシューマンはこのヒントによってようやく筆を進めることが出来たそうです。 その後、新しい作品が生まれることもなく、この作品が作曲者最後の作品となりました。
