Homeward Voyage was written in Autumn 2011, on commission from the Shimofukuda Junior High School wind orchestra. The premiere of the work took place on 27 March 2012 in Yamato, a town in the Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa.
The current residence of the composer, not far from Tokyo, is about a thousand kilometres distant from his birthplace to where he returns several times a year. On the journey there he is always full of expectant joy on seeing his family and friends. This warm feeling can easily be heard in Homeward Voyage.
神奈川県大和市立下福田中学校吹奏楽部委嘱作品。
高校時代まで過ごした福岡、今でも頻繁に行き来していますが、その度に新しい出会いや友人たちとの再会があり、いつも期待であふれています。故郷への思いや旅への期待、そこで触れる懐かしさを描いた作品です。
2012年3月27日、顧問の水島宏枝先生の指揮によって初演。
