Bari Bari Bassi is a groovy, low-end-driven tune that celebrates the rich, resonant power of the bottom voices in the ensemble. The title carries a playful double meaning.
First, it refers to the instrumentation: two Euphoniums (Bari Bari) and two Tubas—Bassi being the Italian plural form of basso, or bass. These four instruments take center stage, laying down punchy grooves and bold statements throughout the piece.
Second, the title is a creative twist on the phrase "Very Very Bassing." Here, "Bassing" is a made-up word formed by adding the English progressive suffix -ing to bass—as in, the act of laying down bass lines or playing with deep, rhythmic intensity. The resulting phrase, "Bari Bari Bassin'" evokes an energetic, rhythm-forward jam session where the bass lines keep driving the music forward.
With infectious grooves, tight interplay, and a sense of fun, Bari Bari Bassi is a tribute to the groove-makers who keep the foundation rock-solid and the music always in motion.

Bari Bari Bassi was written for the 2nd EKODA Bari-Tuba Festival and premiered by the Euphonium Tuba Company Quartet on September 15th, 2012, in Tokyo.

低音楽器の持つ深みとグルーヴを前面に押し出した作品で、タイトルには二つの意味が込められています。 ひとつは、この曲の編成そのもの。2本のユーフォニアム(=Bari Bari)と2本のチューバ(=Bassi)による編成で、Bassi はイタリア語で「低音たち」という意味。
そしてもうひとつは、英語のフレーズ "Very Very Bassing" をもじった造語的なニュアンス。ここでの Bassing は、bass に -ing を加えて生まれた表現で、ベースラインの持つ推進力が音楽を前に進めることを表します。
鋭いアタックとリズミカルな掛け合い、そして低音ならではの包容力と重心の低いグルーヴ感が、この作品の魅力でしょう。
アンサンブルの「下支え」であることに誇りを持つプレイヤーたちに贈る、低音讃歌とも言える作品です。

作編曲家･マルチリードプレイヤーの金山徹氏発案による、第2回江古田バリチュー祭からの委嘱で作曲し、2012年9月15日、第2回江古田バリチュー祭にてEuphonium Tuba Company Quartetによって初演。
